SBR Rubber Washers

SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber) is the most economical solid elastomer washer in our inventory. Cannon Gasket die-cuts custom SBR washers for indoor industrial assemblies where moderate performance is acceptable and unit cost is the driving factor.

Properties of SBR rubber washers

Cannon Gasket cuts SBR rubber washers to your specifications in durometers ranging from 20A to 90A Shore hardness.

SBR tolerances and customization

Standard dimensional tolerances on SBR rubber washers land around ±0.010" to ±0.015" on OD and ID, depending on material durometer and thickness. Tighter tolerances are available on selected grades. Cannon Gasket cuts SBR to custom profiles in-house and matches lead times to your production volume. PSA backing, pad printing, custom packaging, and kitting are all on the menu when you need them.

How SBR Performs in Washer Applications

- Good abrasion resistance and tensile strength. - Moderate water and dilute acid resistance. - Poor resistance to oil, fuel, ozone, weather.

Common Washer Applications

Dust covers, indoor vibration pads, sealed assemblies not exposed to oil or sunlight, and applications where unit cost is the priority.

When Another Material Is the Better Specification

Any oil / outdoor / temperature exposure rules out SBR — specify Buna-N, EPDM, or Viton.

Manufacturing Methods

Die-cut and lathe cut manufacturing. Cloth inserted and Nylon reinforced compounds available.

SBR mechanical properties

SBR is a copolymer of styrene and butadiene with properties similar to natural rubber. It offers good abrasion resistance and excellent impact strength

Standard sizes, tolerances & manufacturing

Frequently Asked Questions

Common SBR questions.

Are you ISO 9001 certified?
Yes, ISO 9001:2015 certified. Documented quality management covers incoming material verification, in-process inspection, calibrated measurement, final inspection, non-conformance handling, corrective action, and full lot traceability. AS9100-ready for aerospace, with MIL-spec and FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 / USP Class VI grades available on request.
What OD / ID / thickness ranges are available?
Standard die-cut range: 0.125 inch to 12 inch OD, 0.060 inch to 10 inch ID, 0.030 inch to 0.500 inch thickness. Larger, smaller, or thicker parts quoted on request.
What durometer should I specify for a rubber washer?
Softer (40A Shore) seals better on rough or misaligned surfaces at lower bolt load. Harder (70-80A) handles higher bolt load without extruding. For most fastener sealing, 60-70A is the starting point.
Which compound holds up outdoors?
EPDM excels at weather, ozone, UV, water, and steam. Neoprene is more balanced if you also need oil resistance. Nitrile fails in outdoor service and should not be specified for UV-exposed parts.
Which compound resists oil and fuel?
Buna-N / Nitrile is the default for petroleum oils, fuels, hydraulic fluids, and most industrial chemicals at moderate temperatures. For aggressive chemicals or temperatures above 250°F, step up to Viton or Fluorosilicone.
How fast do you return a quote?
Most RFQs come back within one business day. Simple profile updates to an existing tool quote same-day. Send a drawing, DXF, or competing part number and our engineering team reviews material, tolerance, and volume before pricing.
What is the minimum order quantity?
Minimums depend on the part and material. We cut prototype and first-article quantities for engineering evaluation, then scale up to production volumes from the same tooling. For high-volume programs we run JIT, VMI, and Kanban replenishment out of Fontana, California.
What should I send with an RFQ?
Ideal: a drawing or DXF, material spec (or compound family), estimated annual volume, and any regulatory callouts (FDA, USP Class VI, AS9100, MIL-spec). If you only have a sample or a part number from a competing supplier, send that and we will reverse-engineer the spec before quoting.
What are typical lead times?
Prototype and first-article parts usually ship in 5-10 business days. Production runs from existing tooling are 2-3 weeks depending on volume and material lead time. Rush and expedite options available on a case-by-case basis.
Need custom SBR washers?
From prototype to production, any size, any volume.
