Sealing components for plumbing

Plumbing systems span drinking water, drain-waste-vent, hot water heating, and commercial industrial water service, each with materials matched to temperature, water chemistry, and regulatory requirements. Cannon Gasket supplies custom plumbing components to fitting manufacturers, valve makers, faucet OEMs, and commercial plumbing supply houses.

Where plumbing sealing shows up

  • Faucet and fixture washers
  • Hose gaskets and couplings
  • Valve body seals
  • Pipe joint sealing
  • Shower and tub gaskets
  • Pressure regulator diaphragms

Plumbing Sealing Applications

Faucet and valve service relies on EPDM and Buna-N flat washers and seat washers, while pipe fitting gaskets use EPDM (drinking water rated) and Buna-N at flange and union joints. Supply line and garden hose ends take EPDM and neoprene hose washers, and toilet tank flapper and fill-valve seals run in silicone and EPDM. Commercial backflow preventers and pressure regulators use EPDM and Viton seals where the application calls for regulated-environment performance. Material choice on each part follows the temperature, water chemistry, and potable-water rating the assembly requires.

Materials We Supply for Plumbing

For potable water service Cannon supplies drinking-water-rated EPDM grades, including peroxide-cured compounds chosen for low compression set, along with FDA silicone. Buna-N covers non-potable service, and neoprene suits supply line and hose applications. Where parts see high wear, polyurethane holds up better than standard rubber, and FDA HDPE and LDPE are available for molded and cut fitting components. Each grade is matched to the contact media and operating temperature of the specific plumbing program.

Production and Quality Considerations

Cannon recommends drinking-water-rated compounds with NSF / ANSI 61 awareness and runs fitting and valve programs on high-volume rotary and compound die cutting for consistent dimensions across large lots. Custom kitting supports service kits and repair programs, and pad printing adds part identification on aftermarket kits. Production runs under ISO 9001 certified processes with tight dimensional tolerances and custom packaging options. Send washer or fixture drawings and annual volume for material options, quoted piece pricing, and production lead time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions from plumbing buyers.

Are you ISO 9001 certified?
Yes, ISO 9001:2015 certified. Documented quality management covers incoming material verification, in-process inspection, calibrated measurement, final inspection, non-conformance handling, corrective action, and full lot traceability. AS9100-ready for aerospace, with MIL-spec and FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 / USP Class VI grades available on request.
Do you carry NSF-61 potable water grades?
Yes. NSF-61-certified EPDM and silicone compounds for drinking-water fixtures, potable-water tanks, and residential plumbing. Certificate of conformance provided on request.
Do you serve general industrial OEMs?
Yes. Automotive, Electronics, Industrial Controls, HVAC, Plumbing, Irrigation, Pool & Spa, and Marine programs all run custom gaskets and washers through our Fontana facility. JIT, VMI, and Kanban replenishment available on ongoing programs.
Which regulated industries do you serve?
Aerospace (AS9100-ready), Medical & FDA (ISO 7 clean room, USP Class VI), Food & Beverage (FDA 21 CFR 177.2600), Oil & Gas (chemical-resistant elastomers), and Defense (US-based production, MIL-spec compounds).
Which rubber is used for plumbing washers?
EPDM and SBR are the standard choices. EPDM for potable water and hot systems (NSF-61 grades available). SBR for lower-cost general-purpose plumbing. Buna-N only where fuel or oil contact is possible.
How fast do you return a quote?
Most RFQs come back within one business day. Simple profile updates to an existing tool quote same-day. Send a drawing, DXF, or competing part number and our engineering team reviews material, tolerance, and volume before pricing.
What is the minimum order quantity?
Minimums depend on the part and material. We cut prototype and first-article quantities for engineering evaluation, then scale up to production volumes from the same tooling. For high-volume programs we run JIT, VMI, and Kanban replenishment out of Fontana, California.
What should I send with an RFQ?
Ideal: a drawing or DXF, material spec (or compound family), estimated annual volume, and any regulatory callouts (FDA, USP Class VI, AS9100, MIL-spec). If you only have a sample or a part number from a competing supplier, send that and we will reverse-engineer the spec before quoting.
What are typical lead times?
Prototype and first-article parts usually ship in 5-10 business days. Production runs from existing tooling are 2-3 weeks depending on volume and material lead time. Rush and expedite options available on a case-by-case basis.
