Sealing components for automotive

The automotive industry covers engine, transmission, fuel, brake, HVAC, interior, and exterior trim sealing, each with distinct temperature, fluid exposure, and durability requirements. Cannon Gasket supplies custom automotive components to OEM tier suppliers and aftermarket service kits.

Where automotive sealing shows up

  • Fuel system seals and O-rings (Nitrile, Viton)
  • Oil pan and valve cover gaskets (cork-rubber)
  • HVAC duct sealing (EPDM)
  • Engine electronics sealing
  • Brake system components
  • Body panel and interior vibration dampening

Automotive Sealing Applications

Engine and oil-system sealing uses Buna-N and Viton in flange, pan, and cover applications, while fuel system sealing relies on Viton and fluorosilicone for fuel, vapor, and emissions hardware. Brake and hydraulic parts use peroxide-cured EPDM for brake fluid compatibility, and HVAC and refrigerant systems use neoprene and EPDM for cabin climate components. Interior and trim hardware draws on ABS, polycarbonate, and felt for trim and accessory parts. For the service market, Cannon kits gaskets and washers into aftermarket repair kits for ongoing service programs.

Materials We Supply for Automotive

Cannon supplies Buna-N, Viton, EPDM (sulfur and peroxide cured), neoprene, silicone, polyurethane, cork-rubber, vegetable fiber, and compressed fiber for sealing applications across the powertrain, fluid systems, and climate hardware. For rigid and structural parts, Cannon supplies ABS, polycarbonate, nylon, Delrin, and felt, matching each material to the temperature range, fluid exposure, and durability the application requires.

Production and Quality

Cannon runs high-volume rotary die cutting for aftermarket kit programs and compound die cutting for tight-tolerance bolted-joint sealing. Custom kitting supports service kit assembly, and VMI and blanket order programs serve OEM tier suppliers. Parts are cut to customer drawings under ISO 9001 certified quality systems with IATF-aligned process controls, and in-house tooling keeps tolerances consistent across high-volume runs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions from automotive buyers.

Are you ISO 9001 certified?
Yes, ISO 9001:2015 certified. Documented quality management covers incoming material verification, in-process inspection, calibrated measurement, final inspection, non-conformance handling, corrective action, and full lot traceability. AS9100-ready for aerospace, with MIL-spec and FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 / USP Class VI grades available on request.
Can you handle automotive production volumes?
Yes. Rotary die cutting for high-volume PSA-backed parts, flatbed die cutting for thicker profiles, and JIT/VMI/Kanban programs on ongoing releases. Production quantities from 10K to 10M+ annually.
Do you provide PPAP documentation?
Yes, on request. Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) Level 1-5 documentation including dimensional reports, material certs, process flow diagrams, and control plans for IATF 16949-aligned customers.
Do you serve general industrial OEMs?
Yes. Automotive, Electronics, Industrial Controls, HVAC, Plumbing, Irrigation, Pool & Spa, and Marine programs all run custom gaskets and washers through our Fontana facility. JIT, VMI, and Kanban replenishment available on ongoing programs.
Which compounds are common in automotive applications?
Nitrile/Buna-N for fuel systems, EPDM for coolant and weather seals, Silicone for high-temperature engine applications, Viton for aggressive fluids, cork-rubber for valve covers, Nomex paper for exhaust gaskets.
Which regulated industries do you serve?
Aerospace (AS9100-ready), Medical & FDA (ISO 7 clean room, USP Class VI), Food & Beverage (FDA 21 CFR 177.2600), Oil & Gas (chemical-resistant elastomers), and Defense (US-based production, MIL-spec compounds).
How fast do you return a quote?
Most RFQs come back within one business day. Simple profile updates to an existing tool quote same-day. Send a drawing, DXF, or competing part number and our engineering team reviews material, tolerance, and volume before pricing.
What is the minimum order quantity?
Minimums depend on the part and material. We cut prototype and first-article quantities for engineering evaluation, then scale up to production volumes from the same tooling. For high-volume programs we run JIT, VMI, and Kanban replenishment out of Fontana, California.
What should I send with an RFQ?
Ideal: a drawing or DXF, material spec (or compound family), estimated annual volume, and any regulatory callouts (FDA, USP Class VI, AS9100, MIL-spec). If you only have a sample or a part number from a competing supplier, send that and we will reverse-engineer the spec before quoting.
What are typical lead times?
Prototype and first-article parts usually ship in 5-10 business days. Production runs from existing tooling are 2-3 weeks depending on volume and material lead time. Rush and expedite options available on a case-by-case basis.
