Sealing components for oil & gas

Oil and gas operations combine high pressure, high temperature, and aggressive chemistry, including sour gas, drilling fluids, refined products, and process chemicals, across upstream exploration, midstream transport, and downstream refining. Cannon Gasket supplies custom flange gaskets, O-rings, lathe-cut seals, and packing components for oilfield equipment manufacturers and refinery service contractors.

Sealing Applications and Suited Materials

Refinery flange gaskets for high-pressure pipe flanges are cut from compressed non-asbestos fiber, graphite, and Klingersil, while refining process equipment running steam, hot oil, and aggressive chemical service uses graphite and Klingersil grades selected for those conditions. Wellhead and downhole O-rings for sour gas and high-temperature service are made in Viton, HNBR, and FFKM, and drilling fluid seals use Viton and FKM compounds that resist oil-based and synthetic drilling muds. For valve and pump packing, Cannon supplies lathe-cut elastomer and PTFE-based packings. Material selection follows the service fluid, pressure class, and temperature for each part.

Materials We Supply for Oil and Gas

Cannon stocks Viton in multiple compound grades, including high-temperature and chemical-resistant variants, along with FKM and HNBR, fluorosilicone, and EPDM for steam service. Sheet materials include compressed non-asbestos fiber, flexible graphite in both pure and stainless-reinforced forms, Klingersil, and Garlock. Expanded PTFE and engineering plastics such as PEEK and PTFE are available for chemical-resistant parts. This range covers the high-pressure, high-temperature, and aggressive-chemistry conditions found across upstream, midstream, and downstream equipment.

Production and Quality

Cannon produces custom flange gaskets to API and ANSI specifications, using steel-rule and compound die cutting for both large parts and tight-tolerance work. ASME B16.21 flange patterns, large-diameter presses, and in-house tool design are available for pipe flange gaskets. Every shipment carries lot-level traceability with material certifications, and stocking programs can be aligned to scheduled turnaround windows. Cannon operates ISO 9001 systems and has manufactured gaskets and seals since 1971.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions from oil & gas buyers.

Are you ISO 9001 certified?
Yes, ISO 9001:2015 certified. Documented quality management covers incoming material verification, in-process inspection, calibrated measurement, final inspection, non-conformance handling, corrective action, and full lot traceability. AS9100-ready for aerospace, with MIL-spec and FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 / USP Class VI grades available on request.
Do you have elastomers for sour (H₂S) service?
Yes. HNBR, Viton GFLT, and Aflas for H₂S exposure, with NACE MR0175 / MR0103 material documentation available on request. We also carry explosion-decompression-rated compounds for deep-gas service.
Do you serve general industrial OEMs?
Yes. Automotive, Electronics, Industrial Controls, HVAC, Plumbing, Irrigation, Pool & Spa, and Marine programs all run custom gaskets and washers through our Fontana facility. JIT, VMI, and Kanban replenishment available on ongoing programs.
Which materials are common in oil & gas?
Viton and HNBR for downhole and wellhead, graphite for high-temperature flanges, Klingersil and non-asbestos for pipe flanges, PTFE for chemical lines, and reinforced Buna-N for hydraulic accumulators.
Which regulated industries do you serve?
Aerospace (AS9100-ready), Medical & FDA (ISO 7 clean room, USP Class VI), Food & Beverage (FDA 21 CFR 177.2600), Oil & Gas (chemical-resistant elastomers), and Defense (US-based production, MIL-spec compounds).
How fast do you return a quote?
Most RFQs come back within one business day. Simple profile updates to an existing tool quote same-day. Send a drawing, DXF, or competing part number and our engineering team reviews material, tolerance, and volume before pricing.
What is the minimum order quantity?
Minimums depend on the part and material. We cut prototype and first-article quantities for engineering evaluation, then scale up to production volumes from the same tooling. For high-volume programs we run JIT, VMI, and Kanban replenishment out of Fontana, California.
What should I send with an RFQ?
Ideal: a drawing or DXF, material spec (or compound family), estimated annual volume, and any regulatory callouts (FDA, USP Class VI, AS9100, MIL-spec). If you only have a sample or a part number from a competing supplier, send that and we will reverse-engineer the spec before quoting.
What are typical lead times?
Prototype and first-article parts usually ship in 5-10 business days. Production runs from existing tooling are 2-3 weeks depending on volume and material lead time. Rush and expedite options available on a case-by-case basis.
