Felt Gaskets
Felt gaskets — typically wool, but available in synthetic fiber blends — handle a class of sealing problem that solid rubber cannot solve well: dust exclusion, low-pressure dynamic sealing, oil wicking, and vibration damping in assemblies where a flexible, porous material is needed.

Properties of Felt gaskets
Cannon Gasket cuts Felt gaskets to your drawing in durometer and thickness specifications of 0.031" to 1.000" thickness. Designed for physical and filtration performance rather than chemical sealing. Good oil retention for lubrication applications.
Felt tolerances and customization
Standard dimensional tolerances on Felt gaskets land around ±0.010" to ±0.015" on OD and ID, depending on material durometer and thickness. Tighter tolerances are available on selected grades. Cannon Gasket cuts Felt to custom profiles in-house and matches lead times to your production volume. PSA backing, pad printing, custom packaging, and kitting are all on the menu when you need them.
How Felt Performs
- Conforms to irregular and dynamic surfaces. - Wicks oil and grease for self-lubricating dust seals. - Vibration damping and acoustic absorption. - Service temperature depends on fiber — wool to ~250°F, synthetic blends higher. - Available in densities from SAE F-1 (soft) to SAE F-13 (hard).
Where Felt Gaskets Are Specified
Bearing dust seals, electric motor end shields, automotive door and trunk seals, oil-wick lubricators, vibration-damping pads, low-pressure rotary seals, and applications where a hard rubber seal would scuff a mating surface.
When to Choose Another Material
For high-pressure or fluid-tight sealing, specify rubber or fiber. Felt is a dust and dynamic-low-pressure specification.
