Why specify UHMW for plastic washers?

UHMW is the polyethylene grade with extremely long molecular chains, delivering abrasion resistance higher than steel in many wear conditions, low coefficient of friction, and in some cases FDA compliance. Cannon Gasket die-cuts and machines custom UHMW washers for material-handling, food processing, marine, and abrasive industrial applications.

Properties of UHMW plastic washers

Cannon Gasket cuts UHMW plastic washers to your drawing in durometer and thickness specifications of Shore D 60–70. Excellent resistance to most chemicals, acids, and alkalis. Self-lubricating with very low coefficient of friction.

UHMW tolerances and customization

Standard dimensional tolerances on UHMW plastic washersland around ±0.010" to ±0.015" on OD and ID, depending on material durometer and thickness. Tighter tolerances are available on select grades. Cannon Gasket cuts UHMW to custom profiles in-house and matches lead times to your production volume. PSA backing, pad printing, custom packaging, and kitting are all on the menu when you need them.

How UHMW Performs

- Exceptional abrasion resistance — outperforms steel in many sliding wear conditions. - Low coefficient of friction (similar to PTFE) — self-lubricating. - Excellent chemical resistance to most acids, alkalis, and solvents.

Common Washer Applications

Conveyor system bearing washers, chute liners and wear washers, food-grade equipment, material handling under abrasive media, marine deck hardware, and any application combining abrasion with chemical exposure.

When to Choose Another Material

For higher temperature (above 180°F), HDPE or PEEK. For tighter dimensional tolerance under load, Delrin.
