Why specify Mylar® for plastic washers?

Mylar® is DuPont's polyester film (PET) — a thin, dimensionally stable, electrically insulating film used for precision spacers, optical alignment shims, and electrical insulators. Cannon Gasket die-cuts custom Mylar washers in thicknesses from 0.0005" up to 0.014".

Properties of Mylar® plastic washers

Cannon Gasket cuts Mylar® plastic washers to your drawing in durometer and thickness specifications of 0.001" to 0.030" thickness. Good resistance to acids, weak bases, oils, and greases; excellent moisture barrier. Not recommended for strong alkalis or prolonged exposure to high-temperature steam.

Mylar® tolerances and customization

Standard dimensional tolerances on Mylar® plastic washersland around ±0.010" to ±0.015" on OD and ID, depending on material durometer and thickness. Tighter tolerances are available on select grades. Cannon Gasket cuts Mylar® to custom profiles in-house and matches lead times to your production volume. PSA backing, pad printing, custom packaging, and kitting are all on the menu when you need them.
