Why specify Delrin® / Acetal for plastic washers?

Delrin® (Acetal, POM) is DuPont's polyoxymethylene engineering plastic — stiff, dimensionally stable, low-moisture-absorption, and easily machined. Cannon Gasket die-cuts and CNC machines custom Delrin washers for precision mechanical assemblies, fluid handling, gear and pulley spacers, and any application that needs nylon-like toughness with tighter dimensional control.

Properties of Delrin® / Acetal plastic washers

Cannon Gasket cuts Delrin® / Acetal plastic washers to your drawing in durometer and thickness specifications of 0.010" to 0.500" thickness. Good resistance to organic solvents, fuels, and moisture. Not recommended for strong acids, strong bases, or oxidizers.

Delrin® / Acetal tolerances and customization

Standard dimensional tolerances on Delrin® / Acetal plastic washersland around ±0.010" to ±0.015" on OD and ID, depending on material durometer and thickness. Tighter tolerances are available on select grades. Cannon Gasket cuts Delrin® / Acetal to custom profiles in-house and matches lead times to your production volume. PSA backing, pad printing, custom packaging, and kitting are all on the menu when you need them.

How Delrin Performs

- Service temperature -40°F to +185°F. - High stiffness and tensile strength. - Very low moisture absorption — stable dimensions in humid environments. - Low coefficient of friction and excellent wear resistance. - Good resistance to fuels, oils, and solvents (not strong acids or bases).

Common Washer Applications

Precision gear and pulley spacers, fluid-handling component washers, bearing isolators, automotive interior trim, medical device assemblies, electronics housings, and applications needing nylon-like toughness with tighter dimensional control than nylon delivers.

When to Choose Another Material

For chemical contact with acids or bases, PTFE. For higher temperature, PEEK. For lower cost when toughness matters more than dimensional stability, Nylon.

Manufacturing Methods

Die-cut and compound-die-cut for thin gauges. CNC-machined to ±.0005 for thicker parts and complex geometries — Delrin is one of the best plastics for machining.
