Viton / FKM Gaskets
Key Properties
- Durometer: 55A – 90A
- Broadest chemical resistance
- Acid & fuel resistant
- Excellent heat resistance
- Low compression set
- UV & ozone resistant
Why specify Viton / FKM for gaskets?
Viton® (fluorocarbon, FKM) offers the broadest chemical resistance and the highest continuous service temperature in our standard elastomer inventory. Cannon Gasket die-cuts custom Viton gaskets for fuel systems, aggressive chemical processing, aerospace, and high-temperature applications where lower-grade elastomers would degrade. Available in commercial, high-grade, Extreme Viton, and FDA grades.
Properties of Viton / FKM gaskets
Cannon Gasket cuts Viton / FKM gaskets to your drawing in durometer and thickness specifications of 55A to 90A Shore hardness. Broadest chemical resistance of any elastomer, resistant to acids, fuels, oils, solvents, and hydraulic fluids. Not recommended for ketones, esters, or amines.
Viton / FKM tolerances and customization
Standard dimensional tolerances on Viton / FKM gasketsland around ±0.010" to ±0.015" on OD and ID, depending on material durometer and thickness. Tighter tolerances are available on select grades. Cannon Gasket cuts Viton / FKM to custom profiles in-house and matches lead times to your production volume. PSA backing, pad printing, custom packaging, and kitting are all on the menu when you need them.
How Viton Performs in Harsh Chemical and Thermal Service
- Resistant to a broad range of fuels, oils, solvents, and aggressive chemicals. - Excellent resistance to ozone, UV, weather, and gasoline swelling. - Lower compression set and longer service life in oil contact than Buna-N. - Available in durometers from 55 to 90 Shore A.
Where Viton Gaskets Are Specified
Fuel system seals (particularly aviation and high-performance automotive), chemical processing equipment, semiconductor manufacturing, oil and gas exploration equipment, aerospace propulsion systems, and any application where chemical exposure or temperature exceeds the Buna-N or EPDM service window.
When Viton Is the Wrong Choice
Viton is significantly more expensive than Buna-N. If the application sees only oil contact at moderate temperatures, Buna-N is the more economical specification. Viton is also incompatible with ketones, esters, and some aromatic amines.
